Coke dealer tried to flee from police

Escape bid halted by cops

- Gavin McInally

A desperate drug dealer tried to run over cops after his car was boxed in during a bust.

The crook, who was peddling cocaine at the time, made the getaway bid after police spotted him and another man with a young woman outside Aldi, in Fulbar Road, Paisley.

Two dealers were selling the class A drug to the woman at lunchtime on Tuesday when plain clothed officers swooped on them.

The cops blocked their car before one of the men fled on foot.

The second dealer attempted to escape by driving his car at the officers, but the quick-thinking constables managed to pull him out of the driver’s seat before anyone was injured.

A witness told the Paisley Daily Express: “It was just after noon when the cops boxed in these guys in the Aldi car park.

“One of them made a run for it and was chased, while the other guy tried to get his car out of there by driving towards the cops.

“Fortunately, he couldn’t manage to get any speed and the cops were able to get in the door and pull him out of the car without anyone being hurt.

He added: “The cops were on the scene for a while and the guy who ran away was discovered in a nearby garden.”

A Police Scotland spokesman yesterday revealed that 12 uniformed response officers arrived on the scene to help nab the runaway dealer.

Chief Inspector Martin Gallagher, who is based at Mill Street in Paisley, said: “This is another example of excellent pro-active policing in the town to tackle drug dealings and a message to those who continue to deal drugs that we will continue to make arrests.”

A Police Scotland spokesman revealed two men, aged 20 and 22, were due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court in connection with drugs supply charges.

A 42- year- old woman has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with drugs possession charges.
