Students net gong for footie coverage
Partnership with film company reaps rewards
Sporting Paisley students are celebrating after online video coverage they helped broadcast won a major award.
More than a dozen students and recent graduates from University of the West of Scotland ( UWS) contributed to QTV Sports’ coverage of the Homeless World Cup, which took place last July in Glasgow.
And it has now won the Best Innovation category at the Royal Television Society ( Scotland) Awards 2017.
Johnny Mone, head of enterprise services at UWS, said: “We are delighted that the QTV’s coverage of the Homeless World Cup has won a Royal Television Society Award.
“We have been working with QTV Sports since the company was founded, and entered into a strategic partnership two years ago.
“Winning this award is great recognition, not just for the company, but also the students and graduates who worked with QTV to help produce their coverage of this global event.”
Last summer, an amazing 400plus matches were played on the three specially-constructed pitches in Glasgow’s George Square.
Action from these was live streamed, with real- time video highlights and interviews posted to social media channels each day.
Glasgow-based producers and creative agency QTV Sports was the host broadcaster, providing action footage of all the games.
Bosses say the company’s partnership with UWS provided students the opportunity to be involved in the coverage of the Homeless World Cup.
Jack McGill, CEO of QTV Sports, said: “Winning this award is a fantastic achievement for everyone involved in our coverage of the Homeless World Cup.
“To share the stage with three talented UWS graduates who managed different elements of that coverage and who have benefited directly from this strategic partnership was proof — if any was needed — that young people are capable of great things when provided with the right training and opportunity.” CALL FOR MORE 0903 658 2009 SEPTEMBER 23 - OCTOBER 23 CALL FOR MORE 0903 658 2010 OCTOBER 24 - NOVEMBER 22 CALL FOR MORE 0903 658 2011 NOVEMBER 23 - DECEMBER 21
