The Muldoons are ready to rock ... 20 years on

- Reunion for Paisley indie band

You can take a trip down memory lane tonight as members of one of Paisley’s most popular indie bands take to the stage more than 20 years after their last gig.

The Muldoons were a familiar name of the local live circuit in the early 90s, taking to the stage at pubs and clubs and even the town hall to impress fans.

However, the group decided to call it a day after a couple of line-up changes and put their instruments into storage.

Now, 20 years later, the boys are back in town and ready to rock The Bungalow, in Shuttle Street, tonight for a reunion show.

Guitarist Bobby Corrigan said: “We were Paisley’s finest indie band after forming in 1998 and playing venues like the now defunct Ale House, Toledo Junction, supporting Paisley’s own Close Lobsters, and also the Lagoon, supporting another Paisley artist, Carol Laula.

“Gigs were to follow at The Clubhouse, the arts centre and a charity show at the town hall called Rock to Walk, which was covered by the Paisley Daily Express back in the day.

“The group disbanded in the 90s after a successful run as one of Paisley’s longest running and successful indie bands.”

He added: “Last year, we met to discuss the possibility of reuniting, playing some gigs and recording before we spent six months rehearsing and perfecting The Muldoons back catalogue of 40 plus songs.

“We’ve got that down to a one-hour set of our best tunes to perform at The Bungalow tonight.

“What was amazing about getting back together last year was how comfortable the band felt when we first got back into the studio in over 20 years.

“We were all still on the same wavelength, albeit with a few grey hairs and wrinkles added for good measure.

“When we started playing the songs for the first time, we were all in awe at how good they still sounded after all these years.

“That made us want to take things a stage further and aim for a gig.” Brownbear are coming to The Bungalow in Paisley this weekend. They will play a full band set with support from the fantastic Patersani and Kitty on Saturday, 27 May, from 8pm. Tickets are still available to reserve for pick up through www.thebungalow. bigcartel.com

In the time the band has been away, technology has made vast improvements.

And Bobby is grateful that publicising a show is no longer as hard work as it was back in the early ‘90s.

He said: “Getting the gig advertised has been a lot easier this time around with social media.

“Back in the day, we had to drive around Paisley with posters and wallpaper paste, sticking posters onto bollards, boarded-up shop fronts, lamp-posts and bus shelters while trying to avoid the police.”

The Muldoons play The Bungalow tonight, with support from Steven Leonard.

Doors are 7.30pm and entry is free.
