“They were drunk and carrying weapons and they started laying into each other, it was shocking.

“It appears that a fight has taken place, during which one of the men suffered injuries and had to be taken to hospital for treatment.

“Officers on the scene also recovered two knives following local enquiries.

“It is not clear at this time why the fight started and I would ask any witnesses to come forward with any information they may have.”

He added: “Violence on the streets of Paisley will not be tolerated and I would like to reassure the public that police patrols in the rea will be increased over the weekend following this incident.”
