Con ties it up for Scotland

Leads side to victory over Sri Lanka

- Craig Ritchie

A Scotland side, led by Paisley cricketer Con de Lange, has tied their series with Sri Lanka.

The two sides met in England as part of the Sri Lankans’ preparations for the upcoming Champions Trophy.

And they managed to rack up a shock victory in the first of the two games to take a 1-0 lead into the second of the two match-ups.

De Lange played as skipper in the first game of the series, with Kyle Coetzer returning as captain for the second outing.

Coetzer and Matthew Cross opened for Scotland, but there was to be no repeat of the 200 runstand that the pair put on against Sri Lanka on Sunday, as Coetzer nicked off to first slip in the third over.

Cross made his way to 27 before he was caught behind as the Scots then slid into deeper trouble with Berrington ( 15) de Lange ( 11) Dylan Budge (2) and Mark Watt (5) with the score on 75/6.

Evans departed when he looked to go big and was caught in the deep for 22 by Pradeep.

Gavin Main offered Wallace support with two well timed fours, however, Wallace fell four runs short of a deserved half-century as he was bowled by Prassana, who finished with figures of 2/28, while Sandakan claimed 4/39.

In reply, Dickwella and Tharanga made their way to an opening stand worth 56 before Watt took the catch to dismiss Dickwella for 29 off Evans off 23 deliveries.

Kusal Mendis entered the fray and after settling in, took the attack to the Scots as he and Tharanga (53) ensured there would be no more mistakes as Mendis finished the game in style with a six over squareleg to complete a comfortable 9 wicket win in the 23rd over.
