Erskine bike rally turns out to be a view with a vroom

Annual event raises more than £8k for Erskine

- Alison Rennie

Crowds got all revved up for the 11th annual Erskine Motorbike Meet.

The summer sunshine helped boost the crowds at the annual fundraiser at the Erskine Estate in Bishopton.

Erskine supporter Heather Clisset, who organises the event, said it has grown bigger in the past 11 years than she could have ever hoped for.

The event kicked off on Sunday with the traditional parade of bikes and trikes from Park Mains High School in Erskine to the estate.

This year it was led by veterans travelling in two open- topped wedding cars.

Inside the event there were fairground rides, Port Town Rockers, Kennedy Cupcakes, UK Garrison, Irvine Marine Cadets and Sea Cadets display, Glasgow Science Centre buskers, Pin Ups vintage, Paisley 2021, a photo booth and lots of street food.

Military support on the day came from 7 Scots who had a deactivated weapons display, the Royal Artillery with a light gun display and the 225 Medical Regiment with their ambulance.

A popular event held for the first time this year was a bikers versus veterans boccia bowls match.

Judith Haw, from Erskine, said: “I was there for 12 hours and it was a great day.

“The bikers parade was amazing as usual, and hundreds of bikers were there.

Money is still being collected from the event and the total raised so far is more than £8,000.

Heather said: “We’d like to thank everyone who made the Erskine Motorbike Meet the event that it is.

“We had a lot of support from local companies – MET Wedding Cars, Dominos Pizza, McGill’s Buses and Pandamonium along with others, as well as youth organisations – West Lowland Army Cadets, Erskine Music Media Studios, Police Scotland Youth Volunteers, Erskine Youth Council and Dance Excel.

“We were also happy to host more bike- focussed guests in Glasgow Tigers Speedway, West Coast Harley Davidson, MCS Scotland, Motorcycle Law Scotland and a craft village, kids entertainment and a military village.

“So there really was something for everyone.

“The bike meet welcomes everyone. It’s grown into a very welcoming warm atmosphere for all, with the spotlight being on bikers – and we were so happy to see local scooter clubs also taking part. We hope the bike meet continues to grow, not just as a fundraiser but to show all at Erskine whether veteran or staff, that they are supported and cared about. “
