We’ll work with Nats if it’s good for Renfrewshire
Pledge from council’s Labour boss
The Labour group at Renfrewshire Council says it will work with the SNP if it benefits the area.
Councillor Eddie Devine, leader of the Labour group, was speaking as the party unveiled its new policy spokesmen.
He said: “Along with my depute Derek Bibby, this is an excellent team of experienced and new councillors with a wide range of skills and abilities, who will be strong voice for the people of Renfrewshire by providing a robust opposition.
“We will support the SNP minority administration if, and when they act in the best interests of the people of Renfrewshire.
“However the first decision they made, which was to scrap the Economy and Jobs Board does not augur well for the future.
“The team I have put together will ensure that maximum pressure will be exerted to protect services and fight any cuts to those front line services “
Alison Dowling will speak on Finance Resources and Customer Service with Councillor Bill Brown as her depute spokesperson, councillors Edward Grady and Karen Kennedy will speak on Education and Children’s Services.
John Hood will represent the party on environmental issues along with Carolann Davidson. Colin McCulloch and Kevin Montgomery will take on the housing and planning portfolio.
Councillor Jim Sheridan will speak on issues connected with economy and jobs and Jim Sharkey will sit on the audit and scrutiny board.
