Firms chip in to help Angus build his new career

Everyone rallies round to help apprentice dad fill toolbox

A Paisley apprentice can’t wait to take his new tools out of the box as he prepares to start his new career.

Big- hearted local suppliers chipped in to fill adult joinery apprentice Angus Leitch’s tool box after hearing he was struggling for kit.

The 27- year- old is starting his apprenticeship with CP Construction Solutions in Paisley, with a little help from his industry pals who donated nearly £400 of equipment.

Dad- of- three Angus said: “I can’t believe it. This is life changing for me.

“I never thought at my age that I would be getting the chance to start a career like this.

“I didn’t have any tools really, but now I have a proper set and I can’t wait to get stuck in.”

And it’s thanks to CP Construction Solutions’ managing director Chris Dickson who hopped on the phone to appeal for companies to come to Angus’ aid, when he found out that he was in need of tools.

He explained: “Angus is such a hardworking guy.

“He gives so much, so I thought we had to do something to help him out.

“When I heard he was struggling to get his tools together for his apprenticeship, I thought why not ask some of our suppliers to chip in?

“I got on the phone and started ringing round and before we knew it he had everything he needed – chisels, hammers, two drill a nail and everything he needs.

“Straight away, the suppliers were all open to it and helped out.

“He now has some really good kit.

“I think with the City of Culture bid coming up it shows just how much the community pulls together when someone needs it.

“The companies all grouped together to help him out.”

Angus, from Glenburn, Paisley, will start his two years of his apprenticeship with CP Construction Solutions and will work on a range if projects.

Firms such as Jewsons, Howdens Speedie Hire, Saltire and Plumbing and Heating all contributed to the tool kit, which will allow Angus to build the skills he needs in future.

Chris added: “Getting these tools is a big boost for him.

“It will give him chance to just crack on with the job and not have to worry about buying or borrowing tools all the time.

“I’m really pleased for him and you can see how happy he is.”
