Big art show is not to be missed

-

Express readers still have a few weeks to enjoy Paisley’s biggest and best art show.

The 129th Paisley Art Institute ( PAI) exhibition features almost 500 paintings, drawings, sculptures, ceramics and even stained glass in what is a colourful and often contemporary survey of the world of art.

Artists, both from Paisley and across Scotland, have contributed to what is one of the most highly regarded exhibitions of its type in Britain.

PAI president David Sutton said: “We’ve got 486 items on display.

“Of those, 41 are sculptures, or the trendy phrase “threedimensional works”. Those works include six by the guest sculptor Lys Hansen.”

One eye- catching piece is a mystical work by Alison McMurrough, inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, that features an Alice figure and a rabbit seated on an armchair.

Almost all of the works are for sale, ranging in price from under £100 to a few thousand.

Just days into the show, more than 20 works had been sold, and the public is loving it.

Comments in the visitors’ book range from “marvellous exhibition, extensive and beautiful”, “amazing exhibition, great work by Lys Hansen, wonderful work”, and “fantastic to see Paisley’s creativity”.

The Paisley Art Institute’s 129th Annual Exhibition runs until Sunday, June 25. Entry to the exhibition is free.
