New ‘team’ at the top

-

It‘s all change on the Renfrew committee following the club’s AGM.

Wholesale changes see Martin Cavan elected as club president and Tom Johnston as vice- president.

Allan McMillan takes up the role of match secretary, with Charley McFadyen becoming general secretary and his wife Dorothy treasurer.

The general committee is now made up of Jimmy Cavan, Andy Mayberry and Davie Graham.

A club spokesman said: “All the best to Martin and his new committee, and thanks to the outgoing committee of John Gilmour, George Johnston, Allan McCafferty, David McCann, Des Roache, Brian Shearer, Graham Gilmour and Iain Wilson for all the incredible work they’ve done over the past four years or more.

“After more than a decade of uncertainty, this group of people, along with Alan Liddell, Eleanor McNish and the late Fairlie Dickinson, came into the club and delivered a new football ground envied by many.

“The club became more than just the Juniors, with youth teams from five and six years old up to under-21s, a Championship-winning ladies team, two amateur sides and an over-35s side proudly wearing the Renfrew FC badge and strip.

“They have created an incredible legacy, one we should all be proud of, and they should be proud. Their contribution, hard work and passion for the club should never be forgotten.

“Western Park is less than half a mile from our new ground but it’s a million miles away from the park we have now.

“It didn’t happen by accident. It took a lot to get it, and will take even more to maintain it. We need to move forward as a club.”
