Woman headbutted officer called to rammy at house

- Ron Moore

A boozy yob headbutted a police officer called out to a rammy at her home.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard this week that Jacqueline McPartland flipped out and attacked PC Adam Marshall when cops attended the house at Blackstoun Oval, in the town’s Ferguslie Park.

The court was told that when the officer began to question the lout, she lunged at him and struck him on the forehead.

Fiscal depute Masooma Jaffri said it was fortunate there were no injuries as a result of the assault on the officer on January 25.

McPartland was immediately handcuffed and arrested following the incident.

On Tuesday, the 44- yearold pleaded guilty to charges of assaulting the officer by headbutting him.

Defence agent Rhona Lynch said her client was ashamed of her behaviour and had expressed her regret over the attack.

She said: “She has shown her remorse for her conduct and she appreciates her conduct was wholly reprehensible.

“She does have a record — it is not the worst record.”

The lawyer added that McPartland had been blighted by drink and substance abuse, and her mental health had suffered, leading to panic attacks, anxiety and depression.

She urged the court not to jail her client as she was in a “vulnerable state” and had pleaded guilty at an early stage.

Mrs Lynch said: “She is genuinely regretful for her conduct and would comply with any Community Payback Order the court would impose, which clearly calls for supervision, and she would carry out unpaid work as an alternative to custody.”

Sheriff Robert Fife told McPartland she was lucky the police officer wasn’t hurt.

He said: “It is fortunate for you there was no injury libelled in the charge and I am persuaded to deal with this by not sending you to prison.

“I will impose a Community Payback Order as an alternative to prison, where you will undergo supervision for 12 months and you will perform 100 hours of unpaid work within six months.”

However, Sheriff Fife warned her: “If you do not comply, the order will be revoked and you will be sent to prison.”
