Trio books spot in final

A number of Renfrewshi­re golfers were in stunning form as they battled it out on the fairways in the Scottish Women’s Regional Medal final.

Lesley Anderson, of Uplawmoor’s Caldwell Golf Club, ended the afternoon in second place in soaring temperatur­es at Largs Golf Club, finishing one shot behind overall winner Sue Fordyce, of Cowglen, in the bronze category.

A score of three over par was enough for Anderson, while Milngavie’s Mandy Allan finished up in third position as the trio booked their spot in the overall nationwide final.

Linda Smith, from Ralston Golf Club, finished the event in seventh position, with a score of eight over par, while Sheena Wallace, from Gleddoch Golf and Country Club, was one place behind, with a score of nine over par.

Sandra Bell ,from Old Course Ranfurly, in Bridge of Weir, was a few places further behind, rounding up the day in 19th position, with a round of 12 over par. And Mary Aitken, from Erskine Golf Club, also produced a solid showing to finish 29th in a competitiv­e field.

Meanwhile, in the silver class, Scottish Golf Academy player Lorna McClymont was in fine form to take the victory as she fired a stunning round of four-under par round of 69.

The Milngavie player posted a scratch 75 for her win, beating Cecilia Kenny, of Dunblane New, and Sarah-Jane Shovlin (Hayston) by six strokes.

All three have sealed their spot in the Grand Final at Crieff on Sunday, July 16.
