Tripp appointed Clan head coach

-

Braehead Clan have confirmed the appointment of new head coach John Tripp.

The Canadian joins the club on a two-year deal, replacing his fellow countryman Ryan Finnerty, who departed the side at the end of last season.

Tripp arrives at Braehead Arena from German DEL2 side Eispiraten Crimmitschau, where he was head coach during the 2016/17 season.

A distinguished playing career saw the 40- year- old ice for NHL sides the New York Rangers and the Los Angeles Kings before going on to make his name abroad, most successfully in Germany.

Stints followed with a host of German sides, including Hamburg Freezers, Hannover Scorpions and Kolner Haie.

He has also been capped over 50 times for the German national side, who he represented at the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Clan hockey and operations director Gareth Chalmers said: “We’re delighted to welcome John and his family to the Braehead Clan.

“From the outset, we wanted someone young, ambitious, well connected and with the leadership to take us to the next level. We believe we have that in John.

“I believe he will challenge the rest of the club to be better, with the aim of challenging for silverware.

“I am looking forward to working with John.”
