Sheriff warns lout to behave after terrorising his ex

- Ron Moore

A foul-mouthed dad‘threw the toys out of the pram’ in a row with his ex-partner over their baby.

David Lawrie, 33, shouted and swore abuse at his ex Gaynor from whom he is separated in front of his elderly mum Nancy.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard this week that the lout also yanked his baby son’s pram from his partner in the tantrum over being denied access to the youngster.

Lawrie, of Andrew Street, in the town, shouted and swore vile abuse during the bust up, which took place at a house in the town’s Rockwell Avenue on May 16.

Fiscal depute Hazel Emmerson said: “The mother of their 23-month-old son received a text message from the accused and about an hour later he attended the locus.

“He began shouting, ‘She’s been telling c**** that I am a bully.’

“Witnesses, including his mother, were concerned.

“His ex partner left the kitchen area with her son and began gathering her belongings and went into the hallway, where she was followed by the accused.

“He was shouting and took hold of the pram and pulled it towards him. He continued shouting.

“The complainer left with her son, but he continued to shout and swear. She later contacted police when she arrived at her friend’s house.”

Defence agent Charlie McCusker said: “The parties have been separated for more than year. The child is his son and in the formal separation the accused has access to the child.

“He had arranged access on the day and thought he was taking his son to the park, but was advised by his partner that was not the case.

“She had arranged to be at his mother’s house and he accepts he acted entirely wrongly because he was upset he couldn’t have his child that day.

“His mother had invited his expartner to the house on that day and he recognises he is wrong, is very contrite, and has not seen his son since that day.”

Lawrie pleaded guilty to charges of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person fear and alarm by shouting and swearing.

Sheriff Seith Ireland deferred sentence on him, but warned he expects no repeat of that behaviour when Lawrie appears back at court in November for a review of his conduct.
