Jack’s set to stay

Gaffer ready to sign new deal with Saints

- Craig Ritchie

St Mirren manager Jack Ross looks set to sign a new bumper deal with the Paisley side after spurning the advances of Premiership side Dundee.

Ross last night pledged his future to the Saints after the Dens Park club failed to convince him to make the switch to Tayside.

It is understood that he will now put pen to paper on a significant pay rise upon his return to the club next week following a family holiday.

Ross is also set to be rewarded with a bump in his transfer budget as the club aim to match his ambitions of taking the Paisley side back to the top flight.

Assistant manager James Fowler will also be tabled an improved deal, with the Buddies boardroom keen to tie down their management team.

Despite both signing a three-year contract in October, their efforts in the dug-out at the end of last season are to be rewarded.

Ross yesterday moved to distance himself from the hotseat at Dundee as he issued the following statement in the wake of rumours he was to depart St Mirren.

Ross said: “Following speculation regarding my position as the manager of the club, I can confirm that I remain focused on continuing to build on the momentum we created in the second half of last season.

“James and I have put in a lot of hard work already and will continue to do so as we strive to prepare a squad capable of challenging in what will be a hugely competitive and demanding Championship.

“It remains my responsibility to reward the loyalty and passion of our supporters with a team which they can be proud of.”

It is thought that Ross met with officials of Dundee while in Spain but they were unable to convince him that a move was the right one.

He had been subject to interest from the Dens Park side for much of this week after St Mirren officially rejected an approach from the Dark Blues on Tuesday.

Saints chairman Gordon Scott had moved to dispel any rumours that the Paisley club would be open to an approach, and is now set to sit down with the manager next week to thrash out a new contract.
