Celebration fatigue for Glenafton gaffer Craig
Barrhead boy Craig McEwan was revelling in Scottish Cup success as his Glenafton side completed the double.
The former Arthurlie manager couldn’t hide his delight as Alan Cairns’ second-half stunner sealed a 2-1 victory over Auchinleck Talbot at Kilmarnock’s Rugby Park.
It follows on from the Glens’league triumph, which capped off a remarkable first full season in charge for McEwan at Loch Park.
Keir Milliken had opened the scoring for Tommy Sloan’s Talbot before Cammy Marlow steered home the leveller.
And McEwan revealed that he has had enough partying following a fantastic season in the dugout.
He said:“I set the players targets at the start of the season and I never thought for one second that we would win both the league and cup. Only Talbot have done it before, but we deserved it.
“It has been an unbelievable season, and I will need to go into rehab as I don’t think my liver can take more celebrating.”
There was a right Arthurlie feel about the Glens outfit, with McEwan joined in the management team by former Renfrew, Johnstone Burgh and‘Lie man Billy Peacock.
Assistant manager, Craig Potter was also once with the Dunterlie side, while strikers Joe Andrew and Chris Dallas used to find the back of the net in Barrhead.
