Cops in new appeal for witnesses

Cops have made a fresh appeal for help to track down a masked knifeman who robbed a Paisley shop.

Detectives have been unable to snare the hooded raider who made off with cash from the till at ValueRite Local shop, in Barscube Terrace, on May 23.

It was the second robbery to take place at the store in the space of seven months.

The suspect for that armed raid is also still to be traced.

Detective Inspector Sandy Nelson, who is based in Paisley, yesterday made another appeal for witnesses to come forward.

He said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the shopworker and we are keen to track down the suspect, who was wearing gloves and had his face covered at the time of the robbery.

“However, when he left the shop he fled on a silver coloured bike, which we have not yet traced either.

“I would ask anyone who recalls seeing this man leaving the shop in Barscube Terrace, before heading in the direction of Barterholm Road.

“Anyone with any detail, no matter how insignificant it might seem, is asked to contact police in Paisley as it may prove to be vital.”

The Paisley Daily Express previously reported how shopworker Mizanur Rahman was left uninjured but shaken by the frightening robbery.

The suspect, who stole a threefigure sum of money, was described as being of a very slim build and around 5ft 7ins tall.

He was wearing a black hooded top and navy blue trousers, possibly tracksuit trousers.

Last year, druing a raid at the same shop, another yob chased the server around the cash desk and ordered him to drop his mobile and open the till.

Footage of the ordeal was captured on the shop’s CCTV system, showing the brute making off with a full day’s takings.

He could be heard shouting “open the cash register” and “put the phone down”, while waving the knife.

A green parka-style jacket and hood covered his face and he was wearing a pair of blue tracksuit bottoms at the time of the incident.

Afterwards owner Nadeem Arif, 48, told the Paisley Daily Express: “I don’t know what is wrong in Paisley.

“These things seem to be happening every day.

“It’s surprising nobody has been hurt yet.”
