Rowdy lout also tried to attack PC

- Chris Taylor

A lout who spat on a student paramedic who was treating him for a suspected drug overdose has been caged for seven months.

Krzysztof Wachowski, 36, attacked the trainee medic responding to an emergency call in Paisley town centre.

He lashed out in the back of an ambulance, then tried to kick a police officer called to restrain him.

Sheriff Tom McCartney jailed the yob for sparking the disgusting ordeal.

He said: “The nature of these offences, in particular, spitting on a student technician paramedic when he was trying to assist you in an ambulance, and, thereafter, assaulting a police officer, there is no alternative to a sentence of imprisonment.”

Wachowski gobbed on the paramedic after he was rescued when he fell ill on Canal Street.

He was also convicted of acting in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause fear or alarm by bawling in his home in nearby George Street.

The thug was arrested after launching the rant and spitting on the mercy worker.

But he continued to be abusive and thrashed at PC Jack Brown after he collared the brute.

He attempted to kick the officer as he was processed at Greenock Police Office on January 30.

A social work report was prepared after Wachowski pleaded guilty to the three charges.

Defence lawyer Jonathan Manson admitted there was a “stark choice” over whether to send his client to jail.

He added: “He has a considerable alcohol problem.

“But he has convinced social work he has his drinking under control.”

Sheriff McCartney ordered Wachowski to serve five months behind bars for spitting on the paramedic, to run concurrently with a three-month stretch for acting in an aggressive manner.

He ordered him to spend another two months in prison for trying to strike PC Brown.
