OAP has special guests for her 95th
A pair of Shetland ponies were the special guests at a 95th birthday party.
Elderslie Care Home welcomed Herbie and Eduardo as a special request from a resident.
The thera-ponies hoofed along to spend time with the animal lovers at the centre.
Rhona Heron, clinical services manager at the home, told how the surprise appearance made the day.
She said: “One of our ladies was reaching a special birthday and she has always loved horses.
“She has ornaments and paintings of them in her room, so when we found out about the therapets, we knew we had to get them in.
“It was such a surprise for her and everybody else got to benefit from having our unusual guests.
“You could see the faces of the residents light up when they came in the room.”
Therapy Ponies Scotland brought the eight- year- old duo along to meet the residents.
They tour the country bringing the animals to care homes to meet with older adults.
Around 120 residents greeted the pair as they arrived and were each able to meet the new pals.
Rhona added: “We took the ponies through the home and they got to meet the residents from our four units.
“The handlers were fantastic and took so much time to speak to everybody and find out how they were getting on.
“They brought the residents forward and they were able to spend some time with them, having a wee cuddle and stroking their fur.
“Animals are hugely therapeutic and you could see the smiles on all their faces.
“We have had dogs and cats in before, but this is the first time we’ve had such unusual guests.
“It’s inspired us to find out what else is out there and see what else we can do in the future.”
