Sma’ Shot Day set to be the best yet

Bumper line-up confirmed for this year

A packed line-up of events has been unveiled for this year’s bumper Sma’ Shot celebratio­ns.

Hosted across Paisley from Friday, June 30 to Sunday, July 2, dozens of arts, music and historical events have been organised.

A spokesman said: “For Scotland’s Year of History, Heritage and Archaeolog­y, the Sma’ Shot festival is bigger and better than ever and is accompanie­d by a wraparound cultural programme called Weave.

“The entire weekend will be played out across Paisley’s historic town centre, featuring the traditiona­l colourful pageant led by the ‘Charleston’ drummer.

“Hundreds of participan­ts and performers will wend their way through the streets in a dazzling depiction of Paisley’s history as a global textiles centre.

“Over the weekend, this family friendly festival will offer live music, poetry, craft and design, kids’ activities, dance, street performanc­e and more to tell the story of the weavers’ rebellion, the iconic Paisley Pattern and its legacy for modern day makers and artists.”

On the Friday, Creative Mornings will be hosted at Paisley Arts Centre, before afternoon tea is put on at Sma’ Shot Cottages.

A Culture Street Installati­on will be staged in the town centre during the day and Cloth by PACE is at the Wynd Auditorium, School Wynd, in the evening.

The big parade will march from Brodie Park to Abbey Close on the Saturday, with a Live Zone packed with family activities at in Shuttle Street and Paisley Arts Centre.

The Dooslan Stane stage, in Abbey Close will host the union speeches, re- enactments and poetry, spoken word or ‘speakers corner’ type activities.

The traditiona­l Burning of the Cork will happening at 2pm.

The closing day will also feature a rammed schedule of events for Buddies, between noon and 10pm.

Block Print Workshops for all ages with Paria Goodarzi will be at the Paisley Arts Centre, Paisley Peacocks with Karen Hanvidge Ceramics is at Paisley Town Hall and Guided Walking Tours, starting from Paisley Abbey will take place between 1pm and 10pm.
