Schools are set for a £1m makeover
Work will take place over summer
Schools are being overhauled as part of an summer holiday upgrade plan.
Education chiefs have revealed vital upgrades will take place at buildings across Renfrewshire in time for the next academic year.
Work includes rewiring and installing new boilers at buildings throughout the region, with more than £1 million set aside to complete construction at five primary schools.
A report to Renfrewshire Council’s finance, resources and customer services policy board set out details of rewiring at St Catherine’s Primary, in Paisley, and St Anne’s, in Erskine.
It stated: “Renfrewshire Council estate has a vast number of properties, including school buildings, which have been subject to a variety of maintenance regimes, upgrades and alterations.
“St Catherine’s and St Anne’s Primary Schools have been identified as requiring rewiring to bring their infrastructure up to date.
“During the tendering period, 14 companies expressed an interest in the contract.
“It is recommended that the tender is awarded to Arthur McKay and Co Limited, who submitted the most economically advantageous tender.”
The rewiring will cost almost £ 700,000 and is expected to last around 15 weeks, with work beginning during the summer.
The builders will provide three work experience placements to graduates while the work is ongoing.
Boiler replacements are scheduled to take place at Auchenlodment Primary, in Johnstone; Houston Primary; and Our Lady of Peace Primary, in Linwood.
Truedeal Building Services Limited is likely to receive the contract after it beat out five other companies.
The report to the board added: “Auchenlodment, Houston and Our Lady of Peace Primary Schools have been identified as requiring new boilers to provide a low maintenance environment and to upgrade the properties to meet current regulatory standards.
“All five submissions complied with the minimum requirements and were evaluated against a set of award criteria which were based on a price-quality ratio of 80 per cent and 20 per cent.”
The business has confirmed it will visit schools and colleges to discuss careers in construction as part of the bid and will offer support to community projects.
Work will begin at the start of July and will take six weeks to complete.
