Party’s appeal

-

Labour is looking to recruit activists in Renfrewshire after the results of the General Election.

Party bosses want to boost their membership after candidates cut into the SNP majority in the race for Westminster.

They say support among young people surged during the campaign to take seats from the Nats and have urged them to join.

Ma u reen Po l l o c k , chairman of the Paisley Labour Party, says numbers will continue to grow heading into the next ballot.

She said: “The election result was very positive for Scottish Labour and we now have six new MPs elected to parliament.

“We saw many young people voting for Labour in this election and I would ask all those who supported us to consider joining the party online.

“We have regular meetings where we discuss important local and national issues.

“It would be great to have more people from the community present to provide a wider perspective.

“Together we can continue to work towards a fairer, more prosperous and more equal society which works for the many, not the few.”

The SNP’s Mhairi Black was re- elected to Paisley and Renfrewshire South and Gavin Newlands to Paisley and Renfrewshire North for second terms.

Both lost votes to Labour, activist Alison Dowling halving Mhairi’s majority from 5,684 to 2,541.
