Delve into town’s history with tour
Delve into Renfrewshire’s fascinating past with an Urban Historian tour.
The tour promotes the amazing history of the town of Paisley and the old county of Renfrew.
The organisation runs heritage walks around Renfrewshire and Paisley on a regular basis and also holds short courses on the local history and archaeology of the old county of Renfrew.
It also re-publishes antiquarian histories of the county.
With a documented history going back to the arrival of Walter Fitz Alan in Renfrewshire, and the establishment of the Priory of Paisley in 1163, the county can lay claim to playing a large part in the creation of Scotland as we know it today.
This month there are two walks taking place – Woodside’s residents walk on Sunday, June 18, and Paisley’s Textile Heritage Walk is on Saturday, June 24.
Woodside Cemetery, once part of the Ferguslie House Estate, is the last resting place of many well know people in both local history of Paisley and national history of Scotland.
Join the group for the Sunday afternoon walk around the cemetery looking at local forebearers.
This walk will start at 2pm, meeting at the gates into Woodside Cemetery and Crematorium, 46 Broomlands Street, Paisley.
Tickets are £4, for more information visit: www.theurbanhistorian.co.uk/
