A tooled-up yob who was caught with two pairs of scissors during a rammy has been jailed.

Christopher Reid, 31, was ordered to spend 21 months behind bars after police found him staggering in the street armed with scissors.

Paisley Sheriff Court had previously heard that the yob, of Grampian Avenue, in Glenburn, had created a rumpus when he smashed his own windows then reported the matter to police on September 10 last year.

Officers then found him staggering along Skye Crescent downing a bottle of vodka, with green handled scissors sticking out from his back pocket.

Fiscal depute Keri Marshall said: “Numerous calls had been made to report a disturbance at Grampian Avenue. Police attended and spoke to the accused at his home address.

“The accused told officers he had smashed his own windows and did not wish to make any complaints.

“Officers stood down from the incident, but they did not leave the vicinity, due to the large number of reports of disturbances.

“Around 30 minutes later, a mobile patrol observed the accused staggering in front of their vehicle.

“He appeared heavily intoxicated and was holding a bottle of vodka.

“On noticing the police, he turned his back and began walking towards Skye Crescent, where the police pulled alongside and began speaking to him.”

The court heard Reid told cops: “I am going roon’ there to slash the dafties that smashed my windaes.”

Reid plead guilty earlier this year to charges of being in possession, without reasonable excuse or lawful authority, of the scissors.

His defence agent Jonathan Manson told the court his client had no recollection of the incident as he has a major drink problem and was resigned to being locked up

He said: “Drink has again taken over his life.”

Sheriff David Pender said: “Mr Manson is quite right, there is no alternative to custody in this case.

“I have regard to your record which includes a conviction for possession of a knife.”

He sentenced Reid to 18 months behind bars for possession of the scissors and a further three months for breaching a bail curfew.
