Cam­pus greets bud­ding chemists

The Univer­sity of the West of Scot­land is to host a Royal So­ci­ety of Chemistry event to­mor­row.

Chemistry at Work at the Pais­ley Cam­pus will see school pupils from through­out the west of Scot­land in at­ten­dance.

The event will give more than 400 S5 and S6 pupils the op­por­tu­nity to find out more about ca­reers in chemistry.

It will also fea­ture speak­ers from ar­eas such as foren­sic sci­ence, chem­i­cal anal­y­sis and chem­i­cal en­gi­neer­ing.

And there will be crime scene in­ves­ti­ga­tion and en­vi­ron­men­tal sci­ence com­pe­ti­tions for vis­it­ing stu­dents.

Ciaran Ewins, of UWS’s school of sci­ence and sport, said: “We are de­lighted to be host­ing this event which will give pupils a greater un­der­stand­ing of the im­por­tant role chemistry plays in our daily lives.”
