The commission also oversees schemes which help keep youngsters from poor families fit.

The report states: “Renfrewshi­re Leisure has been offering free swimming lessons and family swim passes to children from low income households.

“329 children have completed two blocks of eight swimming lessons, with families also offered free family swims.”

Councillor­s on the Leadership Board have been asked to note the progress that has been made over the last six months. The Johnstone History Society has organised a doors open weekend following it’s final meeting of the season.

The group’s meetings will restart on Tuesday, September 12, in the Masonic Hall, Collier Street.

However, two doors open days will be hosted on September 2 and 3.

The first speaker of the year will be Donald Reid speaking about The Lost Villages Of The Doon Valley.

Membership fees are £10 per person and £2 per night for visitors.

Throughout the summer, the museum will continue to open Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, from 10.30am till 4pm.
