Twisted pervert jailed over sex abuse images

Creep said he got ‘kicks’ from sickening picture stash

- Ron Moore

A vile beast who hoarded images of kids as young as two being sexually abused has been caged for a year.

Depraved Christopher Kelly, 31, was also put on the Sex Offenders’ Register for 10 years, with a stern warning ringing in his ears.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard the pervert, of Bank Street, in the town’s Seedhill district, spent more than 20 months trawling the internet for images and videos of youngsters being indecently assaulted.

Cops who raided the address in June last year found the extreme pornography stashed on his laptop and mobile phone.

And Cyber Crime Unit analysis revealed he had downloaded and stored a total of 1,733 images and movies, of which 227 pictures and seven video clips were classed as category A — the most serious level.

His horror cache also contained 162 images at level B, with the remaining 1,300 pictures classed as level C.

The court heard the worst images featured children aged between two and 12 being sexually abused by adults.

The creep sat shame- faced in the dock as he appeared for sentencing after pleading guilty to charges of making and possessing indecent photographs of children between February 2014 and November 2015, at his Bank Street home.

Defence agent Gemma Rathay said Kelly admitted getting a “thrill” out of accessing disturbing pictures on the internet.

She said: “He accepts his behaviour has been wholly unacceptable and feels disgusted with himself.

“This matter has had a huge impact on his family, and affected the long-term relationship with the mother of his child.

“He was previously employed, but has lost his employment as a result of attendance at court today.

“This has had a significant effect on his family and he is no longer in contact with his daughter or his younger brother.”

Sheriff Colin Pettigrew said, even though Kelly was a first offender, there was only one suitable sentence open to the court, given the gravity of his crime.

Referring to contents of background reports, he told the accused: “You admit you were looking for ‘kicks’ and looking to repeat the ‘buzz’.

“This offence contributes to the pain and suffering of children who are physically abused and suffer psychological harm.

“You were getting personal pleasure from downloading this material. The age and vulnerability of the children — some were as young as two years old.

“And the length of time involved, some 21 months, to collect such a large volume of images, with a significant number at both categories A and B.”

The sheriff added as there had to be a “denunciation, deterrent and punishment” for Kelly, the only option open to the court was to impose a custodial sentence.

He jailed Kelly for 12 months, reduced from 15 months because of his plea of guilty, and placed him on the Sex Offenders’ Register for 10 years.
