Teen is only braveheart chosen for U18 GB squad
St Mirren Basketball’s Callan Low has been confirmed as the only Scot in the Great Britain national squad.
The hot prospect travelled to Leicester at the weekend to take part in the first ever GB basketball U18 selection camps and, following a brilliant two days of training and being put through his paces, Low caught the eye of coaches.
Both basketballscotland and British Basketball were involved in the process in whittling down the squad for the upcoming training rosters for both men and women at under 18 level.
And, having made his Scotland senior debut last month, Low will be determined to continue working hard as the only Scot named in the U18 men’s training roster.
He will be competing for a spot in the final roster ahead of the team’s trip to Estonia for the European Championships.
Meanwhile, Scots duo Alix Henderson and Megan Jones have been named to Vanessa Ellis’ U18 women’s training squad.
The U18 women will continue their preparation ahead of this year’s European Championship in Dublin.
Speaking on the recent team announcement, head of Basketball at basketballscotland, Barry Lang said: “It’s great news for the three players selected to the GB U18 training squads.
“This is an exciting opportunity for all of them to represent Great Britain for the first time and the whole team at basketballscotland will be right behind their journey as they bid for spots on the final rosters ahead of European Championships.
“These players are excellent role models for their fellow athletes in Scotland and have shown the characteristics required to compete at the elite level.”
