Fiona hailed as great ambassador for golf as she picks up trophy
Paisley Golf Club’s Lady Captain’s Trophy has been won by Fiona Christie — just two years after she took up the sport.
Christie won the coveted award at the club’s recent Lady Captain’s Day after a round that secured an impressive 41 Stableford points.
Fiona was presented with the trophy by PGC Lady Captain Pamela Smith, joined by club professional Andy Carlton.
Smith told Express Sport: “I am delighted to present this prestigious trophy to Fiona, who was an incredibly worthy winner on the day.
“Since taking up golf two years ago, Fiona has worked on her game with dedication through lessons with our professionals, Andy and Clare-Marie Macaulay, and with hours of practice on both our course and practice areas.
“She has also embraced all that Paisley Golf Club has to offer, taking part in competitions, playing in our bronze league team and joining in our many social events.
“Fiona is a great ambassador for our sport and I am delighted that we can award her efforts with this trophy.”
And Christie’s form has been met with great delight by the club profession, with Carlton adding: “Golf is a sport that can be taken up by all.
“With professional guidance, dedication and a genuine love of the game, a player can become extremely proficient in a relatively short space of time.
“Fiona is a perfect example of this and I am sure we will see her name on several other trophies in the coming years.”
And, with a final word from the winner, Fiona said: “My husband and I were looking for a way to enjoy a sport together and thought golf would fit the bill.
“I started with lessons from Clare-Marie, who quickly gave me confidence, while Andy strengthened my enthusiasm.
“His forward-thinking enthusiasm drew us to Paisley Golf Club and the ladies’ section has embraced me.
“I love my newfound sport and have found it great fun, practising and playing.”
