Brave boys grin and bare it for a great cause

Asda staff are smooth operators for kids’charity

Gutsy guys took on a hair-raising challenge at Asda Linwood in aid of charity.

It was far from smooth sailing for male team members who volunteered to have their pins waxed for a good cause.

Nine men faced the painful beauty treatment on a waxing bed at the store entrance, putting on a brave face in front of crowds of customers.

The tough challenge, organised by radio station Clyde 1, was in aid of Cash for Kids, raising money to help needy young people.

Community colleague at Asda Linwood, Claire Mackie, helped facilitate the event.

She said it was a great success and admitted to enjoying a few giggles at the boys’ expense.

“It’s been an absolutely brilliant day,” she said.

“The guys have been trying to look manly, but there’s definitely been one or two yelps coming from the waxing area.”

As well as waxing, there was a host of fun stuff going on in store on Friday.

Staff manned a sweet treats stall, selling yummy snacks, cakes and goodies to customers.

Courage Cat, Cash for Kids’ mascot, came along to join in the cheer, armed with charity buckets.

All proceeds raised on the day will be donated to Cash for Kids.

Asda stores across Scotland have supported the charity for the last 10 years and in that time have raised more than £3 million.

The support for Cash for Kids ensures that, with the aid of fundraising and donations, children facing financial, emotional and physical challenges are given encouragement and comfort.

This can include helping families to buy Christmas presents and other treats that many of us take for granted.

Claire said she hopes the wax has raised enough cash to make a positive difference.

She added: “Events like this are extremely important, not only to raise funds for Cash for Kids but also raise awareness.

“In donating the money, we hope we will be able to help local kids who need it.”
