High jumper will represent Britain in World University Games
Paisley- born high jumper Allan Smith is getting set to go to the other side of the world following another international call-up.
The Commonwealth Games athlete has been named in the British Universities and Colleges Sport squad, made up of 20 athletes, for the upcoming World University Games to be held in Chinese Taipei between August 19 and 30.
Smith’s call-up comes on the back of recent success over the summer season.
He was recently in action at the EAP meet in Geneva, where the Scotland international produced a season’s best jump of 2.24m to take overall third in the competition.
Smith was also jumping for joy after securing gold at the Loughborough International 2017 meet.
International athletes from across the UK were in the thick of the action, with Smith donning the navy vest of the Scotland squad.
And he was on hand to top the field as he posted a Commonwealth Games standard jump of 2.22m to take top spot on the podium.
Elsewhere in the squad, Aberdeen University student Zoey Clark has been in scintillating form in 2017 over 400m, a 51.84 clocking in Geneva earlier this month was a lifetime best.
The Scottish athlete was part of the gold medal-winning 4x400m relay team at the European U23 championships in 2015, but will go in the individual 400m in Taipei.
And John Lane is one of the standout names in the men’s decathlon, and after a personal best of 7965 points earlier this year in California, he will be hoping to show that kind of form again in August.
In the men’s pole vault, Charlie Myers, fresh from personal best clearance of 5.45m a couple of weeks ago, will be targeting success at his first international student Games.
