Ex-Buddies loanee Adam signs new contract with Morecambe

- Football

Former St Mirren loanee Adam Campbell has been hailed by his new gaffer having penned a deal with his latest side.

The 22-year-old striker has agreed terms with English League Two side Morecambe following his release from league rivals Notts County at the end of last season.

Campbell enjoyed a loan spell with St Mirren back in 2014, arriving at the Buddies on loan from Newcastle United.

Following the success of similar loans for Paul Dummett and Conor Newton, Campbell’s arrival was much heralded by the support.

However, despite scoring on his debut against Kilmarnock, Campbell would only muster two goals in 12 appearances between January and the end of the campaign.

Campbell, who has represented his country for the Under-16s, 17s and 19s, also gained experience out on loan to Carlisle United, Fleetwood, Gateshead and Hartlepool United before joining Notts County in 2015, making almost 100 appearances for the Magpies.

And new boss Jim Bentley revealed that he is delighted to have landed his man ahead of the new season.

Bentley said : “Adam is a player I have admired for a long time.

“He has always impressed me every time he has played against us, and he will bring a lot of skill and energy to the side.

“He has a lot of pace and has a lot of the qualities that we have been looking for and I’m really looking forward to working with him.”
