HAIL DALE Buddies swoop to sign up hitman Hilson

- David Campbell

St Mirren have snapped up pacey front man Dale Hilson on a free transfer.

The 24-year-old has impressed on trial with the Saints, doing enough to secure himself a six-month deal at the club.

Manager Jack Ross was keen to bolster his front line ahead of the new season and has got his man. Assistant manager James Fowler believes the hitman, who began his career at Dundee United, will make the side stronger with his clever runs and intelligent approach play.

He said: “He’s an intelligent player that makes good runs, can link play and can score and create goals.

“We’ve had him in over the last week and he’s looked sharp and really impressed the other players.

“With the formation we are looking to play he is a player that can play in a number of positions in the forward area.”

The striker was delighted to have sealed the deal with the Paisley side, and says he is looking to prove himself at a major club.

Hilson: “I’m absolutely delighted to be here.

“I spoke to James Fowler a few times over the summer and just glad to have it done. St Mirren is a big club and as soon as there was a chance to come in and train I was more than happy to come in and prove myself. I’m a player that will give 100 per cent every minute. I’m quick, direct and I’ll just give everything I’ve got every time I play.”

Hilson starred for Forfar between 2010 and 2013 on loan before making the deal permanent in 2014, scoring 30 goals in 133 with the club.

He joined Queen of the South in 2015 and scored five goals in 28 games with the club before being made a free agent this summer.
