On Sunday, a Willie ‘Jukebox’ Matthews Blues Day will be staged outdoors at Paisley Arts Centre from 1pm to 6pm.

Rose City Blues are the first band on stage at 1pm then Loud n Proud, State Bar Blues Band, The Sliders and Defender will play.

Tommy said: “This event is a tribute to a well-known Paisley singer/ songwriter Willie ‘Jukebox’ Matthews.

“Willie played the blues on his guitar around the pubs and clubs of Paisley and also performed as far afield as South Africa.

“Willie was born and brought up in Ferguslie Park he had always shown a big interest in music, so it was no surprise when he decided to put the talents he had honed on the guitar, ukulele, banjo and mouth organ to good effect.

“He must have played every pub and club in Scotland during his career but he was especially well known in his home town of Paisley.

“He was called ‘Jukebox’ because his repertoire of songs numbered in excess of 4,000. There wasn’t a song he didn’t know.

“After the tribute all the musicians and the crowd will descend on The Cave from 6pm for a jam session.”
