Skipper’s cup vow to supporters as Saints unveil their new strip

- David Campbell

St Mirren chiefs unveiled the club’s new home kit yesterday – and the players are already desperate to pull them on for real.

The strip is a return to the traditional black and white stripes and is made by sports manufacturer Joma... and fans will be desperate to get their hands on them for the upcoming season.

The club had teased Saints fans with a sneak peek of the new tops on twitter during the week, but now they can check out the kit in all its glory.

Speaking at the launch, club captain Stephen McGinn commented on the Irn Bru Cup draw that was made earlier this week.

He said: “We’re delighted it’s a home game.”

After beating East Fife 3- 1 in a bounce game at East Kilbride’s K-Park Training Academy ground on Tuesday night, he is happy to have drawn East Kilbride at home.

He explained: “We played a bounce, closed-doors game there last night and it’s a really tough surface. It’s not an easy place to go and play football.

“So we’re just delighted it’s a home game and we want to go one better in the tournament this year, so it’s nice to start off at home.”

Last year’s cup runners-up will take on East Kilbride at the Paisley 2021 Stadium on either August 15 or 16.

New sponsor, the Beverly Hills -based private equity firm Skyview Capital, has its logo emblazoned across the kit and Infiniti will sponsor the rear of the strip.

Fans can pre- order the new kit from St Mirren’s online store at www. stmirren.com

They will go on sale in the club shop from tomorrow, with prices starting from £45 for adults and £32 for children.
