We won’t forget our friend Owen
Rugby tournament tribute to teen
Sporty teenagers put their heads together to pay tribute to a school friend who tragically passed away.
Rugby players from Park Mains, Castlehead and Johnstone high schools took part in a tournament which was organised in memory of popular Owen MacDonald.
Keen rugby player Owen, 16, was discovered on a grassy area near Park Mains High School, Erskine, on Sunday, April 30.
Police investigating the death of the Erskine teen said there were no suspicious circumstances.
Friends from the three high schools played a round robin tournament of eight- minute games on the pitch at Park Mains High School.
Bishopton Rugby Football Club refereed the games, supported by staff at Park Mains who ran the lines.
At the end of the tournament, each school was presented with a certificate thanking them for their participation.
Park Mains High School headteacher, Michael Dewar, said: “The memorial rugby tournament paid tribute to Park Mains pupil Owen MacDonald, who sadly passed away.
“His school friends wanted to do something that would pay tribute to Owen and this friendly rugby tournament before the school term ended was a fitting way to involve pupils across the area.”
Owen’s loved ones organised a fitting farewell for the car lover at his funeral.
A procession of fast cars including Porches, Pontiacs and Maseratis, gathered in his home town in tribute and were part of the funeral cortege.
The dream machines formed a gleaming procession in honour of Owen, who was a gaming enthusiast and loved playing Grand Theft Auto.
His family had asked owners of American muscle cars, sports cars and “Fast and Furious” machines to be part of his funeral cortege.
More than £11,000 has been raised by pupils and the local community to pay tribute to Owen on fundraising website Justgiving.
