Fashion fundraiser for Back to School Bank is a hit ... but you can still help

- Lynn Jolly

An incredible £ 2,000 has been raised to help ensure disadvantaged youngsters have everything they need for school.

The cash was raised by generous members of the community who went along to a Swish Party at Lylesland Parish Church hall in Paisley.

On the day, money was raised for The Back to School Bank Paisley, which helps children whose families are struggling financially to get a better start in life.

The event saw people picking up a bargain- with pre- loved clothing, shoes, bags and accessories for women, children and men.

The Back to School Bank was set up by Lochfield Primary teacher Lynne Gilday and friends.

Lynne said: “The party went really well and we were delighted with the response. The people who came along were very generous.”

“Money was raised through the £2 entry fee, raffles, sales of tablet and donations for clothes - and there is still more money to come in.

“I would like to thank people who donated clothes, raffle prizes, local businesses for their support and the people who spent money on the day.”

Lynne is supported in the venture by Marion McDonagh, Phyllis Mclean, Ruth Ingleson, Cheryl Tumath, June Craig, Jamie-Lee Dickson, Gail Thomson and Rachael Malone.

Volunteer Lesley-Anne Harris also worked hard behind the scenes to help make the Swish Party a winner.

Lynne added: “Summer is actually our busiest time... for the kids going back to school in August.

“If Express readers with children could support us it would be really appreciated. All we ask of parents is that they buy one extra item of school clothes, PE kit or stationery when they are buying their own children’s uniforms and drop it off at our donation points.”

There are drop-off points at: Lochfield Primary School, Quarry Road, Paisley; Jewelfare, 44 High Street, Paisley; Woodlands Primary School, Linwood and Newmains Primary School, Lang Avenue, Renfrew.
