The only way is up, says Gavin

Striker can’t wait for kick-off

New Saints hitman Gavin Reilly says he is ready to put the nightmare of last season’s loan spell at Dunfermline behind him and fire his new club to promotion.

Reilly endured a tough 12-month loan spell at East End Park, managing just two goals all season, but insists he’s ready to hit top form for the Saints this year.

The 24-year-old is a man with a point to prove and hopes to repay the faith gaffer Jack Ross has placed in him.

He said: “The last year was the most frustrating season of my life. I don’t really want to go into it, but this season I just want to go back to playing regularly.

“Hopefully I can start contributing and scoring goals again.

“Last season was the least rewarding that I’ve had in my career so far.

“I’m still at a good age, so hopefully I can get back to the way I was before this season.”

Reilly insists the best is yet to come and says teaming up again with Ross, who was a coach at Hearts when he was there, will make him a better all-round player.

“We’ve been back in training for over a week and a half now,” he said. “It’s been good to get back.

“All the boys have been great and I’m looking forward to the season.

“The manager is very thorough with everything he does. When he came and approached me and my agent I was basically hooked straight away.

“I worked with him before for a short time when he was at Hearts, and I’ve worked with James Fowler before at Queen of the South, so this is definitely a good place to come and both of the guys have been great.”
