Stark puts his faith in Kevin
McCann is ex-Saints hero’s first K-Park signing
Erskine defender Kevin McCann has penned a deal with Lowland League side East Kilbride.
The 29-year-old is St Mirren legend Billy Stark’s first signing at K-Park since taking the reins last month.
McCann was without a club, having left League One side Albion Rovers at the end of last season.
Having started his career at Hibernian, the full back won the League Cup with the Edinburgh side at the age of only 19.
However, after being beset by injuries, McCann was later loaned out to Inverness Caledonian Thistle prior to short stints at Greenock Morton, Livingston and Raith Rovers.
His next career step saw him take the unusual step in signing for Singapore side Warriors FC, in a move which reignited his love for the game.
His continent-trotting adventure opened his eyes to another world, but wasn’t without its success when he became the first Scot to lift the S-League trophy just over two years ago.
He previously told Express Sport: “It was a risk to go over there at the time and I didn’t really know what to expect.
“I would like to think it made people sit up and take notice of me and it shows managers that I am committed.
“It gave me a number of opportunities and I’ll never forget it.”
A return home in 2016 saw McCann set to have a trial with St Mirren, however the sacking of his former Hibs teammate, Ian Murray, put the buffers on any move.
He went on to pen a deal with Championship rivals Falkirk before signing for the Wee Rovers last season.
Injuries again took hold for McCann, however he still managed to turn out on 19 occasions for Darren Young’s side, with Stark acting as assistant manager prior to his move to East Kilbride.
McCann is joined at K-Park by former St Mirren midfielder Declan Hughes and ex-Arthurlie winger Sean Winter.
