Squad ready for action New-look team gears up for campaign

- Craig Ritchie

Arthurlie were back into the thick of pre-season training at the weekend as the newlook squad gears up for the upcoming campaign.

Chris Mackie, and his coaches Derek Frye, Jimmy Lindsay and Willie McCulloch, put the side through their paces as they bid to get them in shape ahead of a raft of friendlies which get started later this week.

Mackie has been looking to put his own stamp on the squad since taking over from Stevie Kerrigan half way through last season. And he has wasted no time in chopping and changing, bringing in a whole new squad, barring five players from last season’s squad.

A number of new faces were out on the training field at the weekend, including the likes of former Auchinleck Talbot man Colin Spence, ex-Pollok defenders Chris McCann and Kieran McAleenan, and new midfielder Marc McKenzie.

Arthurlie’s pre-season schedule gets started this Wednesday night when they take on Saltcoats Victoria at Dunterlie Park.

This is followed by a clash against Lowland League outfit East Stirlingshire on Saturday before facing Shettleston the following Wednesday.

Ties against Craigroyston, Cambuslang Rangers, a St Mirren XI, and Petershill are also organised in a bid to ensure the ‘Lie are raring to go ahead of the Sectional League Cup campaign starting in August.
