Golfing ladies’charity drive ups its game on behalf of Royal Blind

-

The ladies’section of Paisley Golf Club has strengthened its support for Royal Blind charity by raising some money.

A cheque for £152 and a selection of classic board games, which are especially designed for the visually impaired, have been handed over.

Lady Captain Pamela Smith made the presentation to Courtney Hall from Royal Blind with help from Natalie Orr, who is an administrator with the Paisley 2021UK City of Culture bid team.

Pamela said:“Royal Blind is our nominated charity for 2017.

“We were delighted to present the charity with a cheque for £720 earlier this year, raised from a silent auction at our annual Christmas lunch.

“This latest cheque is from a raffle drawn at my Lady Captain’s Day in June – for which I would like to thank Cardosi’s, BodyWorks at David Lloyd and Paisley Natural Therapy Centre for their support.

“The games were given to us by the Nan McKay Memorial Community Hall in Pollokshields to pass on to Royal Blind as they had read of our support for the charity moving into our town.”

Royal Blind and its sister charity Scottish War Blinded are opening two new services for visually impaired older people on a site at Hawkhead Road.

Jenny’s Well will be a nursing home for visually impaired older people and The Hawkhead Centre is a rehabilitation and activity hub for veterans with sight loss.

Both services are due to open their doors in October.

Natalie Reid, from Royal Blind, said:“We have been overwhelmed by the welcome we have received from the community in Paisley.

“We are very much looking forward to opening Jenny’s Well later this year.

“The very generous donations from Paisley Golf Club Ladies’Section – now totalling £872 – will help provide vital equipment for our nursing home.

“I would like to thank them for their continued support of Royal Blind.”
