GIRL POWER FOR TEENS
Camp aims to build confidence
Teenage girls can sign up for an activity camp – just for them – which is taking place next week.
Active Communities’ popular Girls on the Run group is holding its first ever academy aimed at girls from P6 and older.
Around 14 girls have already signed up for the week- long summer camp which will include activities such as running, walking, pampering, arts and crafts, fitness classes, outdoor activities, orienteering, snack and smoothie making.
Teenage girls are normally a hard-to-reach group for fitness which is why Active Communities established Girls on the Run seven years ago.
Aimed at girls aged between 11 and 14, the class meets every Saturday in the On-X in Linwood and introduces the girls to longdistance running, sprint training, team games and some arts and crafts with the goal of taking part in a community run.
It is currently off for the school holidays but hopes to introduce new girls to the club through the academy.
Community youth worker Sophie Williams said: “We’re excited to do our first summer camp.
“We aim to boost girls’ confidence and self- esteem through activity.
“The camp is run by teenage girls, and is just for girls.
“We run, but we’re not all about serious running. It’s a bit fun and games with friends.”
The camp is £ 8 per day or £30 for the week and runs from 10am till 3pm in Linwood Parish Church from July 17 to 21.
Lunch is not provided, but each girl who signs up for the full week will receive a free goodie bag including a Girls on the Run T-shirt.
