Lout banned from ex’s street for two years

He smashed window during abusive rant at girlfriend

- Ron Moore

An abusive yob who sparked mayhem during a row with his partner has been banned from entering her street, a court heard.

Daryl Edgar, 25, battered a door, punched a window and yelled abuse at former girlfriend Kathleen Cullen, during the outburst of violence at the town’s Barterholm Road.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard Edgar, who is now separated from Miss Cullen, had pleaded guilty to three charges arising from a domestic dispute that took place in April 2015.

However, he was warned he will be thrown behind bars if he breaks the order barring him from any contact with the complainer.

Edgar had admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear and alarm by making threats, striking a door and breaking a window at the address.

He also admitted breaching bail conditions by not attending a court appearance in respect of these offences.

The accused of Shortroods Road in the town appeared yesterday to learn of his fate after sentence had been deferred to allow him to finish hours of unpaid work racked up for other offences.

Defence agent Amy Spencer said: “The accused pleaded guilty to three offences and there had been a search for an alternative to custody as there were outstanding consecutive orders for unpaid hours of work.

“Sentencing on this indictment matter was deferred for good behaviour and he has now completed the hours.

“He is in a position to undertake further unpaid hours of work if a Community Payback Order, with an unpaid work element is imposed.”

However, Sheriff Seith Ireland handed him 150 hours of unpaid work to be done in six months and tore a strip off the accused because of the nature of the offence.

He said: “In respect of the offence and having regard to the protection of someone, I will make a non-harassment order that you do not enter Barterholm Road in Paisley for two years.

“And that you do not contact either directly or indirectly, Miss Kathleen Cullen.

“You can be arrested by police without warrant if you are in breach of the order, and can be sent to prison for up to five years, if the fiscal so decides.”

He also reminded Edgar to get the hours done “satisfactorily” or he would be brought back to court where all sentencing options are available.
