Fans win their own dedicated Saints stand

Black and white army in season ticket sales bonanza

St Mirren fans are set to pack the stands out after they smashed their way through the club’s season ticket targets.

The Buddies support had been promised by the Saints board at the start of the summer that if they managed to sell 1,000 season tickets for the West Stand at the Paisley 2021 Stadium, that the entirety of the stand would be set aside for the black and white army.

Over the past three seasons, clubs with a smaller visiting support have been housed in the W6 and W7 sections of the stand instead of in the away section of the North Stand.

In years gone by, both the North Stand and the two additional sections have been devoted to the likes of Celtic, Rangers and Hearts.

However, following a call from St Mirren fans to set aside the whole stand for them, so the board set the fans a target.

Throughout the summer, the St Mirren offical website has included a ticker of the sales, which have been strong for all sections of the stadium.

And with the ticker having sat at just below the coveted number at the start of this week, the club has now released a statement revealing that the 1,000 target has now been met thanks to a total of 1,008 season books having been purchased.

A club spokesman explained: “When season tickets went on sale a few weeks ago, we announced that if we achieve 1,000 adult/concession season ticket holders in the West Stand, the club would guarantee that the whole stand would be for St Mirren fans, with the exception of cup games, where it may need to be segregated.

“We are delighted to say that we have surpassed this target with 1,008 now sold in the West Stand.

“We would like to thank supporters for the loyalty they have shown ahead of the new season and can ensure that the West Stand will be black and white for league games in the 2017/18 season.

“Season tickets are still on sale for anyone who still wishes to purchase one in time for the big kick-off in the Ladbrokes Championship in August.”
