Hoop aces jet off for GB duty
Paisley starlets get in vital practice for the Euros
Paisley continues to provide history- makers, with two basketball stars on the track to the very top.
Basketballpaisley’s Laura Collins and Chris Feeney formed part of a fourstrong Scottish contingent to represent Great Britain at under-16 level.
This was the first time that four Scottish players had been selected for the GB side at this age group.
Feeney joined fellow braveheart Lewis McGlasson, of Spanish side CB Terra L’Alfas, to travel with the GB men to France to take on the country’s under-16 team for a three-game test series in the preparation of the upcoming Euros.
Meanwhile, Collins and Polly Storie, who plays for City of Edinburgh, made the trip to Ireland as the GB Women took on the Emerald Isle’s under-16s and under-17s as they also geared up for the approaching Euros.
In the men’s first game, Feeney started on the bench, but finished the match with eight points in an overtime thriller as GB 16s edged out the French 64-61.
His performance in game one saw Feeney elevated to the starting five the following evening. And he would lead the way for Great Britain with 10 points by half time.
However, the French were a handful and battled back to even the series up with a 89-64 victory.
Feeney was again handed a start in the final game of the series, finishing as the team’s top scorer with 23 points and also grabbing seven rebounds to give GB the series win thanks to a 70-57 scoreline.
Meanwhile, Collins was unable to influence her side’s first contest as they went down 64-52 to the Ireland 16s side.
An early start the following day saw Great Britain go up against an older Ireland side, however it would be a very closely fought clash throughout.
Great Britain battled, but could not finish off the job as they fell to another defeat.
The two sides would once again do battle, with Great Britain avenging the loss with a 76-52 win, only to end the trip on the end of another loss to the 16s.
