- Craig Ritchie

Junior sides from across the area are gearing up for the new season following the confirmation of the first fixtures.

The SJFA have released the first league and Sectional League Cup clashes for all five divisions, with Renfrew, Johnstone Burgh, Arthurlie and Neilston now all able to plan ahead for the upcoming campaign.

Renfrew will kick- off their Super League First Division season with a home tie against Rutherglen Glencairn at New Western Park on Saturday, August 19.

With league reconstruction now on the horizon following the recent league AGM, Renfrew will harbour outside hopes of sneaking into the top flight.

They will then travel to face Cumbernauld United the following weekend, before taking on newly promoted Kello Rovers at home.

Meanwhile, Renfrewshire rivals Johnstone Burgh will hit the road to face Ashfield on the opening clash of the season following their relegation from the Central District First Division last time around.

Their first home fixture comes the following weekend when Dunipace visit Keanie Park, before a trip to Fullarton Park to face Vale of Clyde.

Lanark United will provide the opposition, before scheduled fixtures with Bellshill, St Anthony’s and Gartcairn.

For the East Renfrewshire sides, Arthurlie have been handed an away clash on the opening game of the season when they face newly promoted Girvan in the Super League First Division. Chris Mackie’s side are hopeful of pushing up the top flight following a number of seasons trying to beat the drop.

Stewart Maxwell’s Kirkintilloch Rob Roy follow, before taking on Darren Henderson’s Hurlford and former gaffer Craig McEwan’s Glenafton.

And for Neilston, a home tie against Forth Wanderers at the Brig O’Lea gets their campaign under way, with another home tie, this time against Yoker Athletic, the following week.
