Kyle hopes for speedy comeback

-

St Mirren boss Jack Ross has revealed that Kyle Magennis could return to the fray sooner than expected.

However, the midfielder is still set for at least six weeks on the sidelines as he returns from a ligament injury picked up in the friendly defeat to Dundee a fortnight ago.

Ross provided an injury update in the wake of his side’s Betfred Cup victory over Stranraer on Saturday, with a number of players still facing extended spells out of action.

Ross said: “Adam Eckersley will hopefully return to full training a week on Monday.

“Kyle Magennis is hopefully a shorter rehab period than we first thought, but will still be the best part of six weeks.

“We have Josh Todd, who has a dislocated shoulder and again we are still waiting to find out whether he needs surgery or not which will determine the length of time. And Dale Hilson should be back training this week.”

Eckersley has missed most of pre-season with an Achilles injury, while Dale Hilson limped off the friendly draw with Alloa Athletic.

Ross admits that this period of the season can be tough on the squad, but will look to field his strongest XI against Livingston this evening. He added: “This is a demanding period for players at this stage because they are still finding their full fitness in terms of games.

“We will assess the players but we want to field the strongest possible side so that we can continue the positive run we have been on, extending back to last season.

“We want to keep that going as long as we can.”
