A brute left a drinking partner bleeding from head injuries in a savage attack in Paisley.

Burly Mark Brady, 34, tracked Murry Brown down Causeyside Street, before head- butting, punching and kicking him on December 13, last year.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard HGV driver Brady had been drinking in pubs with Mr Brown before he invited the complainer and two other men back to a flat at Stevenston Street, in the town.

However, things soured between the accused and Mr Brown when a mobile phone was thrown at Brady as the men sat drinking in the flat.

Fiscal depute Masooma Jaffri said: “The accused had been in the company of the complainer drinking in a public house and, when the pub closed, he invited the complainer along with two other friends back to his flat.

“The complainer continued to consume alcohol with the accused at the property. A mobile was thrown, which accidentally connected with the accused.

“Mr Brown left the flat and the accused made his way onto Causeyside Street at around 2.30am, where he followed Mr Brown. He approached him, head-butted him and kicked and punched him.

“He also pulled at his clothing and tore his jeans before making off from the scene.”

Passers-by went to the aid of the victim who was left lying in the street. The police were called.

Mr Brown was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital by ambulance, where he received stitches to a 2cm cut to the back of his head and four paper stitches to a cut above his right eye.

Yesterday, Brady appeared at court where he pleaded guilty to assaulting Mr Brown, c/ o police, to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement on December 13, 2016, at Causeyside Street.

Defence agent Chris Hiller said the accused, now living at Ochil View, Denny, “deeply regretted” his involvement in the court proceedings.

He said: “An incident had taken place in the flat. A mobile phone was thrown at him. He thereafter reacted in the way described.

“A photograph was being taken outside his flat by Mr Brown and threats were made.

“He had expressed his remorse for his involvement in the incident.”

The lawyer added that Brady, who has £ 2,000 a month in disposable income and enjoys the support of his family, would be willing to pay financial compensation to his victim, as well as pleading guilty to the offence.

Sheriff James Spy said: “Given your level income, I will impose a fine of £750 reduced from £1,000 because of your early plea. I will also require you to pay £ 350 compensation.”

The accused was given 28 days to pay the £1,100 fine or he will be sent to prison.
