Action in Italy follows an impressive season for Habbie Jemma
Kilbarchan AAC athlete Jemma Reekie is preparing to make her European Juniors bow this evening.
The Habbies runner will be in action twice over the week- long competition at Grosseto, Italy.
She is one of six Scots named in the Great Britain squad for the meet, alongside sprinter Alisha Rees, 800m runner Ben Greenwood, and discus thrower George Evans. Joining them will be heptathlete Holly McArthur and 4x400m relay runner Jill Cherry.
Reekie will be in action in the 1500m and the 3000m, having achieved the qualifying marks for both competitions over the course of an impressive season.
Her competition starts at 5.25pm this evening in the 3000m, which goes straight into a final.
And she will follow that up with a run in the 1500m heats on Friday morning at 9.30am, in the hope of qualifying for the event’s final later in the weekend.
A Scottish Athletics spokesman said: “It ’ s another exciting opportunity for half-a-dozen of our talented and hard-working teenagers to test themselves on the European stage.
“For the likes of sprinter Alisha Rees, 800m runner Ben Greenwood and discus thrower George Evans, the Euro U20s mark the next stage in their progression after previous international appearances – including winning medals for Scotland at the Commonwealth Youth Games two years ago.
“Kilbarchan AAC athlete Jemma, in fact, is lined up to double up this week – taking on the 3000m and the 1500m following recent fine performances.
“All at s c o t t i s hat h l e t i c s congratulates the six athletes involved at the European Juniors and wish them and their families and coaches all the very best for competition.”
And just as was the case for the Euro U23s last week in Poland, the European Athletics website will be up- to-speed on the event with live results and a live stream from Grosseto.
