Town is looking blooming lovely
Volunteers provide some flower power
Linwood is in bloom thanks to some kind- hearted volunteers who are helping brighten the place up.
Volunteers from Linwood Community Development Trust (LCDT) have been getting greenfingered in a bid to transform their town.
The Linwood in Bloom project was launched to make the area a more attractive place by developing community flowerbeds and providing troughs and planters.
The community-funded effort has seen locals and residents alike come together to work outdoors, improving various locations around the town.
The final stage of planting was carried out at Clippens roundabout this month by the planters, with more grasscutting and weeding work scheduled to be carried out.
The initiative aims to increase civic pride by encouraging local people to take responsibility for the planning and management of their environment.
Not only does the town boast some beautiful new floral additions, but those taking part have enjoyed doing voluntary work and seeing the co-operation between community groups.
The LCDT was formed in 2011 by a group of community members who were passionate about improving facilities and making Linwood a better place to live.
Its other projects include a community choir, Light up Linwood, the Football Facility and Roots of Linwood – a quality lowcost community fruit and vegetable shop.
A large part of the funding that supports Linwood in Bloom and LCDT’s other projects comes from the sales in Roots of Linwood and the kindness of volunteers.
The trust is now calling for help in securing funds for the Mossedge Village development, which has been in the planning stages for the past seven years.
The regeneration would see Renfrewshire benefit from a £ 3million investment in community facilities at the Mossedge site which will comprise of a 3G pitch, changing rooms, café, theatre, meeting area and growing area.
Ahead of their application to the Big Lottery Fund Scotland, the LCDT is calling for locals to show their support for help in securing the £ 2.4m funding that is still required.
Volunteers will visit all households from August 2 to 17 to carry out a short survey, and there will also be a public event held on August 19 where locals can view the full plans.
